Accessibility

Accessibility statement

UNICEF Colombia is committed to making this platform — the guide for local management of inclusive and resilient care and support systems — accessible to everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification or other assistive technologies.

Conformance status

This platform is conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the international reference standard for web content accessibility and reflects the requirements of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Conformance is maintained through continuous review: every site update is verified with automated testing and manual review with keyboard and screen readers.

What we have done

Accessibility improvements implemented

Among other measures, this platform includes:

  • Keyboard navigation

The whole site can be browsed and operated with the keyboard alone, with a logical tab order and no focus traps. Menus and search close with Escape and return focus to their trigger.

A “Skip to content” link, visible on focus, takes you straight to the main area without tabbing through the whole menu.

  • Semantic structure and landmarks

Hierarchical headings, identified navigation and main regions, and semantic lists so you can orient yourself and jump between sections with a screen reader.

  • Alternative text

All images, logos and illustrations have text descriptions; decorative icons are hidden from assistive technologies.

  • Accessible components

The menu, search and disclosures use ARIA roles, states and labels: submenu state is announced, search results are announced live, and every control has an accessible name.

  • Screen reader announcements

Links that open in a new tab say so, and resources not yet published are identified with an accessible label (“Resource pending publication”).

  • Contrast and visible focus

Text and controls maintain sufficient contrast ratios under WCAG 2.1 AA, and every interactive element shows a clearly visible focus indicator.

  • Mobile and screen magnification

The site adapts to small screens with touch targets of at least 44×44 pixels, works with up to 200 % zoom without content loss, in portrait and landscape.

  • Language and forms

Each page declares its language correctly (Spanish or English) and form fields have associated labels with clear instructions.

Transparency

Content with improvements pending

Despite our efforts, there are some known limitations we continue working to overcome:

  • Some downloadable documents (PDF and Word) come from external sources and may not fully meet accessibility criteria; we are working to replace them with accessible versions.
  • Videos hosted on YouTube rely on that platform's captioning features.
  • External associated tools, such as Inclusive Programming, manage their own accessibility and have independent reporting channels.

Report an accessibility barrier

If you find an access barrier on this site, or need any of our content in another format (easy read, braille, audio or plain text), contact us. We want to be able to respond to everyone.

To help us address your report faster, please tell us if you can: the page where you found the barrier, the device and assistive technology you use (if any) and a brief description of what happened.

Specifications and assessment

Technologies used

This site relies on HTML5, WAI-ARIA and CSS. It is compatible with current browsers and assistive technologies: screen readers (NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver), keyboard-only navigation and screen magnification.

Assessment process

Site accessibility is assessed through self-evaluation: automated testing, manual keyboard navigation review and verification with screen readers. Last reviewed: September 2026.

This statement was prepared by UNICEF Colombia as the manager and developer of the platform, and will be updated whenever relevant changes are added to the site.
